Why Every Man Should Have a Great Tailor

When a man goes to create, or update his wardrobe, the first thing he should do is make sure he knows a tailor. Tailors take the old and new clothes that don’t fit and turn them into some of the most loved and integrated pieces of any man’s wardrobe.

Tailors are vital to the success of every fashionable wardrobe for several reasons, the first of which is that the options of what you can wear skyrocket once you know a great tailor. You don’t have to pass up on great clothing pieces because they don’t fit quite like they should, or worse, buying it just to have it sit in your closet till it’s thrown out years later. Clothes bought at retail stores, online, or even thrift stores can all be tweaked and adjusted by a tailor to make them fit like they were made especially for you.

Not every man has the time to dedicate to understanding the world of fashion or what looks best for them. This is another reason getting to know a great tailor, and letting them get to know you, is helpful on the journey to looking your best. A good tailor will be able to tell you what kind of fit will work best for you and help you feel comfortable and confident in the way you dress, leaving you more time to do the thing you love and looking great doing it.

Tailoring has been an art form for centuries, and for good reason. It allows men of all shapes and sizes to look their best effortlessly. So, take a couple of pieces, old or new, and go visit your local tailor. You will find that those pieces will end up being the part of your wardrobe that you wear more often and with more confidence.

How To Choose Your First Suit

Every man needs a suit he can rely on for all occasions. For the guy who hasn’t added a suit to his wardrobe yet, it can be challenging to know what to look for. There are hundreds of colors, different fits, and several styles that can make the process complicated. Here is what to look for when buying your first suit.

The first thing to think about when buying your first suit is the fit. When wearing a suit that doesn’t fit properly it is uncomfortable, looks sloppy, and doesn’t provide confidence to the wearer like it should. Sometimes it is possible to find a suit off the rack that fits well, but more likely than not you will need to have access to a tailor who can make adjustments. The key to the perfect fit is finding a suit that fits the shoulders and is proportionate in length. Sleeve length, the drop (how it’s tapered in the torso), and trouser adjustments in the waist, seat, and length can all be adjusted by a tailor.

People have differing opinions as to the color of a first suit. Generally, it’s best to keep it simple. The key to the first suit is versatility, something you can wear often for a broad range of occasions. Black, navy, and charcoal are all relatively versatile, however charcoal tends to be the most versatile. It can be formal or more casual and the dark grey is a color that will fit most of what is already in an existing wardrobe.

Once you’ve decided on the color and fit of your first suit, you will need to be on the lookout for the quality of the fabric and construction of the suit. When just starting out, it’s tempting to get a cheap suit to save some money. The issue there is that most cheap suits are made of polyester or similar fabrics that trap heat and are constructed in a way that restricts movement making them uncomfortable and easier to wear out. The best first suits are constructed to last and are comfortable to wear years after they are purchased. A quality suit is always well worth the investment.

The first time you try on a suit that has been tailored to you is a special occasion! It shouldn’t cost you an arm and a leg, but it is worth saving up for a suit that will keep you looking your best and building your confidence years into the future.
